As part of the Accord process, the Australian government is focusing in on higher education student support, retention and equity. As of Oct 20th 2023, the government has passed a new Support For Students Policy with compliance requirements for January 2024 and is also asking TEQSA to crackdown support requirements from the existing standards.

Starting Jan 1st 2024 with the SFS Policy, a TEQSA student support crackdown and forming a Student Ombudsman, the government will use additional regulation to ensure that AUS universities consistently prioritise and improve their metrics for student equity, outcomes, and retention whilst preparing themselves for more scalability.
The government believes one of the best ways to do this is to focus on student support service operations.
